How did you learn how to do this?
I learned basic switching and circuits from electricians and reverse engineering from my college studies. The rest I have learned through experience and the occasional antique lighting catalog.
How long have you been doing this?
Rome Lightery Company is young still. I have been repairing lamps for 5 years. I have worked in lighting for over 10 years. I have been obsessed with lights my whole life. If any more proof of experience is required, the crate of removed old wiring or my neon landline can be shown.
How did you get into this?
I wandered into it like any fool who wants to follow his hobby of collecting quality vintage lamps or even saving broken lamps from the clearance section of the big box store. I believe in the right to repair and am not afraid to fail. If you keep trying at something, eventually you will become skilled at it.
Where do you get your parts from?
Nearly all parts come from Grand Brass in Connecticut. They produce their own quality parts or resell from reputable brands like Leviton or GE. All replacement wire including fabric sheathed wire has a modern plastic coating to better protect than rubber/ tar/ cotton coatings previously used.
Why don’t you have all of the lamps repaired and rewired?
For the same reason a restaurant doesn’t cook the food before you order. Chicken can be cooked many different ways. Lamps can come in many different flavors too! We stock various types of plugs, cords, sockets, and switches to choose from.
Does that mean that my lamp won’t be done today?
We can offer same-day service for an additional fee for guaranteed service. We will try to get your lamp done as soon as reasonably possible. We might be able to get your lamp back to you but no guarantees in normal situations. We will call, text, or email when your lamp is done. You can choose between pick-up or paying for delivery.
UL - What is it?
UL stands for Underwriters Laboratory, the organization who checks for safety standards in products sold. Specifically for mass-produced products. Parts of an assembly can be UL listed like the socket, wire, and plug. UL is typically required for commercial applications or anything mass produced
UL does not guarantee a fault-free product. It meets the criteria of safety that the UL codes require.
All lamps that have been rewired or repaired in any way are considered refurbished. These lamps will contain new parts and pieces but should not be considered to be brand-new, warrantied, or guaranteed.
